Lin Yu Mei Sarawak Laksa & Kolo Mee 林玉梅砂越干捞面 - Simple yet full of taste!

It was a lazy Sunday evening and after watching NOC's latest FoodKing episode, we decided immediately that we have to try this Sarawak Kolo noodles.

It was not hard to locate 林玉梅's Sarawak Kolo noodles. They have only two choices - Laksa Sarawak and Sarawak Kolo Noodle.

We were lucky to have reached 7 PM+, and there weren't any long queues seen.

We decided to try for their signature kolo noodle as highly raved Food-King Good! by NOC (can you spot their decal on the stall?)

The cooking portion was pretty fast and straight forward - noodle was cooked in boiling water before running through the noodles in the room temperature water. Before serving, the stall owner mixes oil from onion and lard, light soy sauce, and chili in the bowl before placing the noodle in. It was then topped up with minced pork, char siew, spring onion and bawang goreng (fried onion) before it was served.

This is the portion for $4.

The almost colorless noodle was pale looking, but it was definitely not "pale" tasting! The Maggie Mee look alike noodles were actually very tasty and springy! Very well mixed with the ingredients, the taste of the Sarawak kolo noodle served at this stall was simply incredible. It was flavourful yet not overwhelming, every bite taken from the bowl of noodle seemed to make you want to continue eating. The chili, however, can be quite spicy so do take note to inform stall owner to place them in a saucer for you if you are unsure of the right amount to take.

We weren't served with free flow of pork lard as mentioned in NOC's video, however, we felt that the flavors in the bowl were enough for us. We felt that the texture of the char siew however, can be improved (I'm not a fan of dry Char siew). Other than that, we have no further complaints on this bowl of noodle.

林玉梅's Sarawak Kolo Noodles is definitely a must try if you are around that area. It is not uncommon to see patrons returning to take away a few packets of noodle home even after they have finished eating their share. Definitely a returning customer!
