Yi Ji Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee 義記福建炒蝦麵 - Strong Fried Prawn Noodle competition at Old Airport Road

Competition is pretty high for Hokkien Mee (Fried prawn noodle) at Old Airport road. Yi Ji is one of them in this food centre. It's located along the first row of stalls and just a few stalls away there is another similar stall named 億記福建炒蝦麵 which have the same pronunciation. Do take note the 義 and 億, as they have the same layout and design of the signboard.

The sambal chili "super spicy 超辣" as proclaimed on its signboard. We will try that out later.

Their Hokkien mee was slightly drier with little broth compared to what we usually have in any other fried Hokkien mee stall. Another major difference - there was no pork lard found in this plate of Hokkien Mee, so will it taste good? 

Both yellow noodle and white bee hoon match pretty well. I personally like the noodles not too soupy or soggy and the gravy was just sufficient to give the noodles its flavor instead of overpowering it.

Their proclaimed chili goes really well with the noodles but I suggest to eat a few times before stopping as it overwhelmed the taste of the noodles.

Will I return? Old Airport road food centre really has quite a few of Hokkien Mee stall to try. So after all those reviews then I will see if this is better than others.

Western Barbeque - Old school Chinese hawker style Chicken chop

Old Airport Road Food Centre is one of Singapore’s largest hawker centers. With its long history about 40 years old, no surprise that this popular food center houses several famous hawker legends. One of the most popular Western stalls at Old Airport Road is the one known simply as Western Barbecue.

Besides chicken chop, they have other grilled meats such as pork chop and beef steak. 

The beans were alright while the fries were fried perfectly crispy.

The bun is served evenly buttered, I love their old school soft and fluffy butter bread although it was not made by themselves. We don't get to see western food offered this kind of bread anymore. 

The meats are grilled to a slight char to bring out the smoky smell. Each bite of the chicken chop was tender. But I didn't find anything particularly special about the meat, the chicken chop is juicy but it only has a slight hint of bbq-ness and not much seasoning taste.

After I had this chicken chop, I heard from others we should have it topped with Garlic sauce that will make it wonderful, I will be back to ask for that.

Hom Aroy Thai Food - Authentic Thai Cuisine in Hawker Centre

Having thoughts of having authentic Thai cuisine but do not like to go for expensive priced restaurant? Now you can have it under $10 for an authentic Thai meal in a Hawker centre at Kim Keat Palm food centre.

This place really has lots of hidden gems, you could look at my previous post on $2 Cai Png, Fried Oyster Omelette, Beef Noodle, and Chee Cheong Fun. Today we came here again to have Thai cuisine. Most importantly, it was not those stalls that just sell fried Bak Chor with rice or Spicy and sour soup and call them Thailand cuisine.

They have an impressive number of dishes displayed including Tom Yum Gong, Green Curry Rice, Fried Basil leaves with meat.

Ordered Basil leaves with fried pork ($4), this is one of most popular, and the most beloved Thai street food dish of all time.

Steamed white rice coupled with pork infused with Thai basil leaves, long beans, carrots and lots of red chilli with a combination of dark soy sauce and fish sauce. It is delicious with a good balance of fiery hot and savoury.

It tasted like some of the food stalls on the street I've had in Thailand, but something lacking is the taste of basil leaves, they could make it taste better with more of it. 

The pork was lean and very few fats can be seen which I love so it won't contribute to the already oiliness to the dish. Some advice for non-spicy food takers, it could be spicy to you.

Will I return? Of course! with such a nice meal and there is still lots of dish I have not tried, be back for their tom yum soup or any other authentic dishes.
