Holy Grill Authentic Western Cuisine - Generous Side dishes at Old Airport Road

Having thoughts of Western food here, but there are quite a few Western Food stalls in Old Airport Road Food Centre, and I had Western Barbeque in this food centre before, and one that caught my attention this time was Holy Grill Authentic Western Cuisine from its brightly coloured signboard.

The meal was $6.50 and it was pretty good value for money.

You can also pick your own side dishes. There are both fresh and hot selections like pasta salad, potato salad, baked potato, mashed potato, corn, rice, fries etc.

Quite a few reviews displayed on at their stall.

I had a grilled chicken chop that came with 2 sides, I chose baked beans and french fries. Enough to fill a grown adult stomach. The fries was an excellent choice, it was quite crispy.

The grilled chicken chop comes with a satisfactory portion that is worth the price. Grilled and charred, the meat was tender and fleshy.
The chicken chop was a bit burnt at the bottom giving it a slightly overcooked taste. But the gravy was really good and it covers up the slightly burnt chicken chop taste.

Although pricier than its Hawker counterparts, you get a huge piece of chicken and pretty generous portions of sides. Holy Grill certainly has an outstanding grilled chicken chop. I have yet to try their other dishes, which I will return for. It was a very good dinner.

Mount Faber Nasi Lemak - Supper to have in Chinatown

Founder moved from little kampong to big city and made a name out of her little Nasi Lemak business.

Previously selling at the foot of Mount Faber in Telok Blangah, the stall now resides under shophouses in Chinatown.

They have a large variety of dishes to choose from to go with the rice, such as fried drumstick, fish cake, curry vegetables, fried eggs, sausages, otak and so on.

I went for their set meal, which consists of Egg, Otah, fried chicken wing and peanuts with fried anchovies. The rice itself is filled with an aroma of pandan leaves. It was fluffy, plump and yet not oily. Similar to those wrap in banana leaves which is normally sold anywhere. The chili tasted slightly hot and with a nice sweet.

Their homemade fish otah was soft and bits of the fish meat which is not as spicy as the chili, is a good dish to mix with the coconut rice.

The taste of the chicken wing was quite similar to any of the chicken wing anywhere. It was crispy, however we can still tell it was fried using frozen chicken wings.
Overall it was a pretty decent Nasi Lemak and they are open daily until 4 AM, which makes this a great supper destination.

This whole family of three sisters is selling Nasi Lemak. Her eldest sister is the owner of the Punggol Nasi Lemak while her youngest sister is the owner of Bali Nasi Lemak. Each of them has their own specialty, so I recommend to visit all of them!

Soon Heng Hot & Cold Desserts 順兴清甜五味汤 - Desserts for $1!

I think this is probably the cheapest place where you can buy Teochew desserts in Singapore for just $1. Started since 1972, Soon Heng hot & cold dessert served only Tau Suan and slowly providing more hot and cold varieties as years go by.Sgfoodfeed cheapest ice caching chendol hawker centre
There were non-stop queues when we were there during lunch time. They have two queue lines, one for hot desserts, and the other for cold desserts, so make sure you are queuing at the correct side if you visit. Normally the queue for hot desserts is generally shorter than the queue for cold desserts.

Most of their desserts cost only $1, and that even include cold desserts like Ice Kacang or Chendol Ice! You can choose to add in more ingredients to your dessert at minimal cost, from $1.50 onwards.

I was amazed at the amount of ingredients served in each bowl for $1!  Stall owner did not short change anything. The ingredients served in my bowl were fresh, firm and Q!

We don’t need to explain why mounds of finely shaved ice with fruit and syrup are a great respite from the heat. Ice Kachang is one of the classics here, the difference with any others is that they have more milky taste than the syrup, and I could even taste the Bandung on the red side of the ice (red syrup plus milk)! Their ice was soft and nicely shaved which I really like. Bits of red beans inside also added texture to the frozen fluffy dessert, which was feathery light and not as sugary sweet as I expected.

Normally we won't see the ingredients in the bowl of Chendol until we dig down to the bottom of the bowl. But here, all the ingredients were on the top. It is really rare to find good and inexpensive old school Teochew desserts these days.
They remain their prices low so any patrons can afford a bowl of their favorite desserts after a meal. Also, the desserts served here are not too sweet and traditional, just like how we used to enjoy the old school desserts back then. I would certainly find time to visit for the rest of their desserts.
