Bowen's Italian & Western fusion - Having spaghetti at neighbourhood Coffee shop

Hong Kah Snack Bar has been here since I was born, with many stall owners came and go. Lately, I walked passed this coffee shop by chance and saw a new stall which sells western / Italian cuisine. The first thought I had in mind was "can this still survive with all HDB surrounding it?" I went google the name of the stall and saw quite a bit of review around so I decided to try this myself.
Singapore Jurong west food
The special thing about this stall is that a coffee shop establishment in the day that serves economic bee hoon can transform into Italian/western cuisine in the evening. Bowen's serves a variety of Western and Italian cuisine, and some of the famous dishes include Duck Leg Confit, Seafood Spaghetti, Mixed Salads and their Signature Barramundi.

Their menu: Surprisingly, none of the spaghetti cost more than $10.

After looking at the menu, I decided to try a dish I always ordered for Italian cuisine -  Basil Pesto Cream Spaghetti. As this place has no aircon and the surrounding can be very humid, I decided to take away the order (there were additional charges of 30 cents for take away) instead of eating there.

As simple as it seems to be with pasta and sauce, not anywhere you would be able to find a pasta tossed in wild boar cream sauce which provides a savory flavor, with big portion. Their portion is bigger than the stuff you will get at the usual coffee shop western food, just order a portion of spaghetti will get you burst with fullness. Worth a visit if you stay in the West, Bowen's offers quality food at coffee shop prices.

I'm quite confident that they will be here to stay at least for the next 2-4 yrs, and I will definitely back for more!

Kim Lian Kee Chee Cheong Fun (金蓮記豬腸粉) - One of the smoothest food in KL

KL Chinatown Chee Cheong Fun
Chee Cheong Fun - Rice noodle roll is a Cantonese dish commonly served either as a snack, small meal or variety of dim sum. What I am introducing is plain, sliced rice noodle rolls with spicy-sweet sauce and a sprinkle of toasted sesame seeds.

In a corner of Petaling Street(茨廠街) at Chinatown, this Chee Cheong Fun stall is popular with tourist and locals. The location might be difficult to find as they are in a dark corner, do keep a look out for air Mata Kuching stall, it is located right across. At night, this place transforms into a well-known Kim Lian Kee Hokkien Mee.

They serve Chee Cheong Fun with sweet bean sauce and chili sauce topped with a sprinkle of sesame seeds. The sweet bean sauce differs from Singapore-style which uses a thicker, saltier sauce. It may look simple but it’s absolutely delicious. The rice noodle was very soft and slippery, it sometimes breaks or slips off when trying to use a chopstick to grip it. I prefer this Chee Cheong Fun texture than those selling in Singapore.

The business is so good that the Chee Cheong Fun is usually sold out by afternoon. Apart from Chee Cheong Fun, they do serve porridge too, so do take note beside this stall there is another stall that sells porridge too that displayed very similar dish.

Restoran Wong Ah Wah (黄亞華小食店) - Best BBQ chicken wing I had in my life!

WAW Chicken Wing
This fake looking Mickey Mouse signboard has been in Jalan Alor street for over 70 years until today. Try googling "Jalan Alor" and the name "Restaurant Wong Ah Wah" (WAW) will appear on most of the web page.
Famous for their signature BBQ chicken wings, it is definitely a dish loved by both the tourists and the locals.
WAW Food
The photo of WAW's BBQ chicken wings alone will leave you salivating for the rest of the day! It's lightly charred skin were grilled perfectly and one bite on it, the taste of the oily and juicy smoky well done marinaded meat would stick to your fingers which anyone would definitely lick away. We ordered at least 8 wings (for 2 pax) every time when we visit them. It's seriously THAT good! WAW's chicken wing is one of the main reasons why I am always back to KL! The staffs at WAW can be quite rude sometimes as it was ALWAYS very crowded when we visit, and I was even told impatiently by them that I need to wait for at least an hour during dinner time.
Cost: 3.20RM per piece
Wong ah wah roast pork noodle
Roasted Pork Noodle (烧肉捞生面) is another food that you must order when you are at WAW! The noodles, mixed perfectly together with lard oil and black sauce looked so good when it was served and the taste was EVEN better. Every strand of the noodle was springy, similar to the egg noodles (mee kia) in wonton mee. Personally, we felt that the roasted pork we ate was fatty and the skin wasn’t that crispy as compared to Singapore's, however, the wow factor of this dish is definitely the mixture of black sauce with pork lard, which really complemented the taste of each ingredient very well.
Cost: 13RM for small, 18RM for medium, 24RM for large and 30RM for extra large. (18RM is enough for 2 pax)
was food
We also ordered Milk pak choi (奶白菜) with garlic to get rid of the oily taste after we had the chicken wings and the roasted pork noodle. The pak choi was cooked with generous amount of garlic (not crushed), and it was stir fried with oyster sauce. I love to eat the soft pieces of garlic by itself, and the vegetable was very nicely cooked as it was still crunchy even when the garlic and oyster sauce was absorbed by vegetable.
Cost: 8RM

I would suggest you get a table indoor during your visit to WAW as it’s air-conditioned unless you want to end up smelling like some BBQ human meat. It can be really smoky if you take the outdoor seats due to the constant roasting of chicken wings.

WAW's prices were acceptable, even though the service can be improved further. However, the chicken wings there are worth every single calorie despite the poor service. This place is still very worth visiting when you visit Jalan Alor.

Note: Wet tissue is chargeable at 0.60RM each so be sure to return them if you do not want to be charged extra as they will give you by default.
